The 2022-23 Guangzhou Rams season begun with the cloud of the COVID-19 pandemic still causing delays, cancelations and even forfeits. Thankfully, with COVID-19 fading away from memory, expat rugby in China quickly returned to normalcy once the calendar flipped to 2023.
The Rams First XV mens team embarked on the daunting task of winning the All-China Cup starting with repechage elimination match against the Beijing Ducks. Away from home comforts, the Rams managed a convincing 45-12 win which set them up for an away semi-final versus the powerful Shanghai RFC. With memories of the lost ACC 2021 final still fresh in their minds, the Rams traveled to Shanghai and pulled off a stunning 33-22 win sending them to the All-China Cup final against the Dongguan/Shenzhen Bulldog Dragons. In a match for the ages, the Rams scored a last minute try to pull ahead and capture their first ever All-China Cup with the final score-line of 22-17. A roller-coaster of a season came to a close with a trophy in our cabinet.
Looking ahead to the 2023-24 season, with travel restrictions a thing of the past the Rams hope to have a more busy schedule of fixtures and tours for all three squads (First XV, Bomb Squad and our Women's side). If interested in joining the Rams family get in touch! #RamsWin #GuangzhouStrong
